How to make a 21:9 header in three steps
- 1
Upload
Drop a screen recording, clip or image (MP4, MOV, PNG or JPG). It is read in your browser, not uploaded.
- 2
Trim, set fps, mute
Drag the frame to choose the 21:9 crop, trim to 5–30 seconds, pick 30 or 60 fps and decide whether to keep the audio track.
- 3
Export
Download a 3840 × 1646 MP4, then let the checker confirm ratio, size, length, frame rate and metadata before you upload it.
What AppStoreHeader does
Product page preview
See your file as a product page header and as a 3:2 search card, so you know what each crop cuts off.
Spec checker with real rejection reasons
Pass or fail for ratio, exact pixels, length, fps, alpha and metadata, each linked to a reported rejection.
Share your passed-check card
Get a small result card that shows your header passed the spec check, ready to copy or post.
Image mode
Export an exact 3840 × 1646 or 5244 × 2950 PNG with transparency flattened and metadata removed.
Video in your browser
Crop, trim and re-encode to 3840 × 1646 locally. No upload, no account, no watermark.
Trim, fps and audio controls
Keep the clip between 5 and 30 seconds, choose 30 or 60 fps and drop or keep the audio track.
What is the App Store product page header?
On October 5, 2026 Apple opened three new creative assets in App Store Connect: the product page header, the search results asset and the Asset Library. The header is a wide image or a looping video that sits at the very top of your product page. Developers sharing it on X describe the change simply: the first thing a visitor saw used to be your screenshots, now it is a full-width video playing above your icon. Source: adapty.io, App Store Asset Library (Oct 6, 2026).
The header and the search results asset only appear on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 or later. Both are optional, and neither replaces your screenshots or your App Preview videos; those still appear on the page as before. You can set a different header for each localization of your product page.
What are the exact specs (21:9, 3840 × 1646, 5–30 s)?
Apple publishes the header specs on its creative assets reference page. Pixel sizes are exact: an asset that is one pixel short is not accepted, so 3840 × 1645 fails where 3840 × 1646 passes. Source: Apple App Store Connect Help, Creative assets specifications.
- Header video: 21:9, 3840 × 1646, 30 or 60 fps, 5–30 seconds, .mov / .m4v / .mp4. It plays muted by default (viewers can unmute) and loops.
- Header image: 21:9, 3840 × 1646, .jpeg / .jpg / .png, no alpha channel or transparency.
- Universal header image: 16:9, 5244 × 2950, .png only. This is the only size that can also be used as the search results asset.
- Search results asset: 3:2, from 1920 × 1280 up to 3840 × 2560, image or 5–30 second video at 30 or 60 fps.
How do I add a header in App Store Connect?
Anyone with the Account Holder, Admin, App Manager or Marketing role can upload creative assets. The upload lives next to the rest of your product page metadata. Source: aso.dev, App Store Connect placements.
- Open your app in App Store Connect and select the app version.
- Go to Product Page Information, then Header and Search Results.
- Upload a new file or pick an approved asset from the Asset Library.
- Use Preview to check it by device, orientation, localization and dark mode.
- Submit the asset for review.
Do I need a new build?
No. Creative assets can be sent to App Review as a standalone submission, and once approved they can be swapped onto the version that is already live. That makes the header one of the few parts of the product page you can test without shipping an update. One thing is locked, though: the poster frame of a header video cannot be changed after approval, so pick it carefully before you submit. Source: adapty.io, App Store Asset Library (Oct 6, 2026).
Why do headers get rejected?
On October 16, 2026 Apple added guideline 2.3.14 to the App Review Guidelines, written specifically for creative assets. Headers must be suitable for all ages (4+), must not reference other apps in a misleading way, and must not show prices or discounts. Apple's design advice also asks you to avoid URLs and promises the app cannot keep. Source: Apple Developer News (Oct 16, 2026); summary by ppc.land.
Most technical rejections come down to small file details. Developers have reported a PNG that was exactly the right size but was refused because it carried an eXIf metadata chunk, a 1536 × 658 design that scaled by 2.5 to 3840 × 1645 and missed by one pixel, and transparent PNGs that would not upload at all. The checker on this page tests for each of these before you upload. How is this different from screenshots and App Previews?
Screenshots and App Preview videos are still your main product page media. The header is an extra, optional layer that appears above them on iOS 27 and later. It is wider (21:9 instead of a device-shaped frame), it loops, and it starts muted, so it has to explain your app without sound or text-heavy captions.
The search results asset is a separate placement again: a 3:2 card shown in search. The header and the search card are cropped differently, so Apple's advice is to keep the subject and any text in the middle of the frame and large enough to read on a phone. If you want one file for both, the option “Use header asset in search results” only works with a 16:9 PNG at 5244 × 2950. Source: adapty.io, App Store Asset Library (Oct 6, 2026).
Can each custom product page have its own header?
Yes. Custom product pages can use any approved asset from the Asset Library, and in Product Page Optimization each treatment (up to three) gets its own Header and Search Results tab. That is why marketers on X call it a cheat code: one ad creative, one matching header, so a visitor who taps a TikTok ad lands on a page whose first frame continues the same story. Is this tool free, and is my file uploaded?
AppStoreHeader is free, needs no account and adds no watermark to your export. Videos and images are converted and checked locally in your browser, so the file you drop never leaves your device. Because 4K encoding is heavy, a desktop browser is much faster than a phone. This is an independent tool and is not affiliated with Apple.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a new build to add a header?
No. Creative assets can go to App Review as a standalone submission and, once approved, can be swapped onto the version that is already live.
Why was my 3840 × 1645 header rejected?
Apple's size is exact: 3840 × 1646. Scaling a 1536 × 658 design by 2.5 gives 3840 × 1645, one pixel short, so resize to exactly 1646 pixels high.
Can one 16:9 asset serve both header and search results?
Yes, but only a 16:9 PNG at 5244 × 2950. With “Use header asset in search results” turned on, that one file fills both placements.
Does the header play with sound?
The header video starts muted and viewers can unmute it. A search results video is muted and currently cannot be unmuted, so tell your story visually.
Who can see the header — only iOS 27 users?
Yes. The header and the search results asset are shown on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 or later; everyone else sees your screenshots and App Preview as before.
What does guideline 2.3.14 forbid?
Added on October 16, 2026, it requires creative assets to be suitable for ages 4+, bans misleading references to other apps, and bans prices or discounts.
Can I set a different header per custom product page or PPO treatment?
Yes. Custom product pages can use any approved asset from the Asset Library, and each Product Page Optimization treatment (up to three) has its own Header and Search Results tab.
Why was my PNG rejected even at the right size?
Two common causes: an alpha channel (transparency is not allowed) and embedded metadata such as an eXIf chunk. Flatten the image and strip the metadata, then upload again.
