App Store Product Page Header Size (21:9 and 16:9)

The app store product page header size is exactly 3840 × 1646 pixels at 21:9 for images and video, or 5244 × 2950 pixels at 16:9 for a PNG that can also fill the search results card. Sizes are exact, so 3840 × 1645 is rejected. Check any file free on our home page.

What sizes does Apple accept for the header?

Apple lists two header shapes. The standard one is 21:9 at 3840 × 1646 and works for both images and video. The second is a universal 16:9 image at 5244 × 2950, accepted only as PNG. Images must not contain an alpha channel or any transparency. Source: Apple App Store Connect Help, Creative assets specifications.

  • 21:9 image: 3840 × 1646, .jpeg / .jpg / .png.
  • 21:9 video: 3840 × 1646, 30 or 60 fps, 5–30 seconds, .mov / .m4v / .mp4.
  • 16:9 image: 5244 × 2950, .png only.
  • Search results asset (separate placement): 3:2, from 1920 × 1280 to 3840 × 2560.

Will my file pass? Three size verdicts

The checker on our home page sorts every file into one of three verdicts, using only the numbers Apple publishes.

  1. Pass as a 21:9 header: exactly 3840 × 1646, as JPEG, PNG or video. Use this when the header is the only placement you care about.
  2. Pass as a universal header: exactly 5244 × 2950 and saved as PNG. This is the one size that can also be used as the search results asset with “Use header asset in search results”.
  3. Fail and resize: anything else, including near misses such as 3840 × 1645, a 1920 × 823 draft, or a 16:9 JPEG. Scale and crop to one of the two exact sizes before you upload.

Why is one pixel off a rejection?

Because the size is a fixed value, not a minimum. One developer designed at 1536 × 658 and scaled by 2.5, which produces 3840 × 1645, one row short. The fix was a non-proportional nudge to 1646. Another found that 3840 × 1646 means exactly 3840 × 1646, and that a transparent PNG would not upload even at that size. A third had the right size but was rejected because the PNG carried an eXIf metadata chunk. What does Apple not specify?

Apple's spec page does not publish a safe zone, rules for on-image text, or a file size limit for the header (the only 500 MB limit on that page belongs to In-App Events). Treat any safe-zone numbers you see elsewhere as guesses. What Apple does advise is practical: the header and the search card crop differently, so keep the subject and text in the middle, and make text large enough to read on a phone.
